Calaveras County Fair &
Jumping Frog Contest
www.frogtown.org
The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras, written by Mark Twain in the summer of 1860,
inspires not only the annual Calaveras Frog Jump the third week of each May, but
also the frog in the Calaveras Wine Association's logo. In 1928 the first official
"frog jump" celebrated the paving of the streets in Angels Camp, California. In
1937 the "frog jump" joined the Calaveras County Fair and has grown by leaps and
bounds every year since. The world record is held by Lee Guidici from Santa Clara, with
"Rosie the Ribiter" jumping 21 feet, 5 3/4 inches in 1986.
